Keeping The West Wild

High West is proud to call the beautiful mountains of the Wasatch Range of Utah in and around Park City, home. It’s where we live, where we distill, and where we welcome people to experience our whiskeys. Yet, sadly our scenic patch of the West and others like it are in trouble. Wildfires have grown increasingly destructive and persistent. Winters are getting shorter with less snowpack, and wildlife are finding their habitats becoming more and more difficult to survive. We want to do something about it, and we need your help. High West is making a commitment to give back to amazing partners working to Protect the West. We will be featuring them here, and we would ask that all fans of High West take a moment to help us in our mission to keep the West wild and vibrant for generations to come.

The Spark That Started It All

In the summer of 2021, we were getting ready to re-release our beloved Campfire whiskey. This unique and smokey spirit was originally named with the intent to be sipped and savored with good friends around a campfire.

However, as devastating wildfires engulfed and incinerated the Western US (including a fire in our own backyard - the Parleys Canyon Fire) - we decided to flip this release on its head and link up with the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to ask our fans and adventures alike to not light a campfire but drink one instead.

The support for wildfire awareness was overwhelming, which prompted us to continue our commitment to bring awareness to the issues of the land, thus igniting the creation of our Protect the West initiative in the summer of 2022.

An Enduring Commitment

From the very beginning, when High West set down roots and started distilling in Park City, we’ve been a staunch supporter of preserving the land. Our team has seen firsthand the impact of climate change, with higher temperatures, severe droughts, drier forests, and reduced snowpack plaguing the West more and more.

Since establishing our Protect the West initiative in 2022 after witnessing these changes in our own backyard, we have donated over $1 million to organizations that share our passion for the West and whose conservation efforts fall into three focus areas: the fight against wildfires, protecting winters, and wildland preservation.

Luke Grimes

Protect The West Ambassador

We're proud to announce our new partnership with actor and musician Luke Grimes to advance our conservation efforts through the Protect the West initiative. This collaboration marks a pivotal next step in our mission to help charities which preserve the open skies, rugged trails and wild landscapes that define the spirit of the American West.

Now, with Luke Grimes joining the High West family as brand ambassador, we're reinvigorating our commitment to protecting the places people love most. A proud outdoorsman, Western lifestyle advocate and longtime whiskey enthusiast, Grimes will help amplify the campaign message through storytelling and awareness efforts designed to inspire others to take action and get involved.

Sustainability At High West

Our commitment to preserving the West is incorporated into our everyday operations.

Site Energy
100% of our site energy is offset by renewable energy credits

Spent Grain
All spent grain is sent to an anaerobic digestor, which produces methane gas to power the Salt Lake City electrical grid

Water Usage
We use chilled glycol to cool our still instead of water to reduce water consumption on site.

Grain Sourcing
All grain used in our whiskey distillation is sourced from small producers within a day’s drive of the distillery to reduce freight miles.

Site Recycling
Our hospitality locations utilize momentum recycling for all glass, plastic, paper, and aluminum, as well as food waste and composting.
